2014 Clark-Claudon Estate Cabernet

While 2013 was an artful dance with no stepping on the toes, 2014 kept us on our toes. It included a winter of drought, a mild rainy spring and an earthquake as harvest got going.  Each of these required an informed reaction as explained below.

It takes resilience to succeed in this industry. That proved true for everyone in 2014.  Still, as the grapes were harvested the words were; excellent, beautiful, exciting…another great year!

To assure sufficient irrigation resources, our water was moved from one reservoir to another.  Vigorous vine growth fostered by spring rain demanded careful canopy management. The earthquake called on everyone to support those affected. This included our severely damaged tasting room, Vintners Collective, one of the oldest buildings in Napa.

Yet, once the fruit reached the winery our vineyard management team and winemakers were rewarded with excellent fruit quality, concentrated berries and exceptional structure…amazing!

The 2014 Estate Cabernet provokes exquisite expectations with its presentation of deep dark sienna and touches of ruby on the rim of the glass. This is followed by an intensely concentrated nose of dark black berries and cassis with additions of cedar, cherries and chocolate. While on the palate you experience a velvety entrance that remains round and rich with layers of cherry, sage, boysenberries, plum liquor and bergamot. Safely said, this beauty will satisfy all of the senses as it lingers for a long finish.
