In November, 2016 an increase made our wine prices current with small production, Napa Valley, Estate Grown artisan wines of equal caliber. Yet, to honor our customers who had supported us along the way we decide to protect them from the increase with special pricing. Thus, our non-club customers became our First Flight Members.

These are some of the glorious descriptors of the Napa Valley’s 2018 Cabernet vintage, while many winemakers say it is the best vintage in the last two decades! That is quite a statement. Yet, our 2018 Clark-Claudon Estate Cabernet checks all of those boxes. Mind blowing indeed!

THE STORY

Given the current drought conditions, it is difficult not to wistfully look back at the 2018 growing season. There were abundant rains in February, ideal clear weather for spring’s bud break and an extended summer of warm days and cool nights without any major heat spikes or fruit damaging rains. These impeccable growing conditions allowed the gentle development of soft tannins, bright acids and the opulence of perfectly ripe fruit.

TASTING NOTES

Hues of dark eggplant with touches of amethyst at the rim give an immediate sense of richness and elegance. This is confirmed with a nose of ripe, dark fruit, roasted coffee and chocolate, macerated raspberries, violets and spicey highlights.

The soft, velvety entrance evolves into a fresh mid-palate filled with raspberry, red currant and boysenberry. This lingers towards a dark blackberry reduction with a touch of earthiness on the long, yummy finish. The 2018 Estate’s, full body and silky well integrated tannins attest to extensive age-ability.
