2012 MUSTANG CABERNET
Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, is the alma mater of Tom, Laurie, their children, Josh and Briana and Briana’s husband Brian. So, to say they are fans is an understatement.
In 1994, Tom & Laurie hosted a harvest party and picnic for Cal Poly alumni at Clark-Claudon Vineyards. It was a family event with adults and kids picking the grapes and hand cranking the de-stemmer. The more adventuresome, gave up their shoes, climbed in the small tank and crushed the grapes the old-fashioned way. At the end of the day, there were quite a few purple feet.
We crushed a lot of Clark-Claudon fruit that day before sending the juice off to the winery. The wine was named, Mustang Cabernet, after Cal Poly’s mascot. Three years later, proceeds were used to fund a Cal Poly scholarship.
Since then, 12 Cal Poly scholarships have been given. The 2012 vintage of Mustang Cabernet, was the last. Like its name sake, the 2012 is sleek and graceful with just enough power to make you enjoy the ride.
2011 THREE STONES CABERNET
2011 Three Stones Estate Cabernet presents with deep dark color and long legs that suggest the full rich mouth feel to come. A nose of ripe fruit, spicy wood and dark chocolate opens to layers of ripe plums, baked purple and red fruit pie, a hint of herbs and a finish of milk chocolate.
With balance, softness and integration this is a wine you can enjoy today or in the years to come. My favorite descriptor says it all, yummy!”

THE HISTORY OF CABERNET FOR CARE
In the summer of 2008 Laurie Claudon & Tom Clark searched for a connection between their two passions; making wine and making a difference. Out of that process, “Cabernet for Care” was created.
Initially, Laurie chose a non-profit to support through Cab for Care. The wine was offered at a 50% discount while the other 50% was donated to that charity. The customer would then receive a receipt for tax purposes.
Since then the program has evolved into a very basic format. Simply said, the customer pays 50% of retail for the allocated wine while promising to donate the other 50% to a charitable cause of their choice. There are no checks and balances, but rather a sense of trust.
Over the years, Cabernet for Care has quietly supported cancer research, wounded veterans, mentally and physically challenged children, and educational programs among others.
“It is impossible not to be proud of how Cabernet for Care has brought together good people and needy causes; so simple yet so powerful!”
— Laurie Claudon
